The War of 1812 was tied to prior events causing many conflicts. The main reason the War of 1812 came about was because there “was really an offshoot of a larger global conflict between the British empire and the French empire of Napoleon Bonaparte.” (L. (2012). The United States knew a war was bound to happen, the United States decided to try improving their defense. A new fort was built that had the idea of using a horseshoe shape. With the new horseshoe shape, there was more room for movement as well as new angles the troops did not have prior with the standard block shape. The United States was also able to improve their naval force. For the first time the use of an iron was used as a reinforcement for navy warships. Using this new frame on the ships made it possible to ram the opponents ships without receiving a large amount of damage. The United State’s ships became stronger allowing them a chance to outlast the British for a longer amount of time, despite the British having many more battleships. Andrew Jackson was known as a war hero because of how he was able to lead the United States to many victories in the battles of 1812 even with the lack of troops. Andrew Jackson was well respected and was able to have his “5,000 soldiers [accomplish] a decisive victory over an invading British force of 7,500.
