Warfare was very important during the Middle Ages. They were important for the development of society, military systems, as well as gathering resources to support armies, and the campaigns and battles fought. During the high middle age war was fought on the field with horses and soldiers. Small wars often broke out between neighboring or rivaling kingdoms. One monarch would want the land or resources of another, and a war would be declared. Such warfare was often spontaneous and unpredictable. Fights happened quickly and with little time for preparation. Whoever was available and able to fight was expected to be on scene and ready for battle at a moment’s notice. The men did not train together nor have time to devote to planning and plotting
