Was Marcus Junius Brutus a traitorous villain or selfless hero? Well, there have been many depictions of who Brutus and many more opinions on his morals and personality. And some people say Brutus was a good guy while others proclaim that he was not. While this question will always remain unanswered, one can infer that Brutus was neither hero nor villain. He did some very bad things for good reasons, but he also did some very good things for bad reasons. Marcus Brutus was simply an anti-hero by his unawareness, loyalty, and eagerness. Throughout his entire life Brutus was unaware of certain and usually important events that happened around him. In Shakespeare's “Julius Caesar” Marcus Brutus was always unaware of the real reason the conspirators wanted to kill Caesar. Brutus was simply told that the conspirators were doing it for the good of Rome and he went along with it. Brutus was also unaware of the fake letters scattered all over his garden in places he would see. He never questioned as to why so many random letters which showed up everywhere he went said that Caesar was a bad person. After this battle, Caesar and Brutus worked together and became friends. Since Caesar and Brutus were best friends, obviously Brutus was trusted and respected highly by Caesar. And Brutus felt the same way for Caesar, but Brutus had an even deeper loyalty to Rome and her people. Throughout the whole play, Brutus thought killing Caesar was for the good of Rome and that is why he is respected like a hero should be. But Brutus is no hero.
