During the year of 1775, The British army was being stationed in Boston and rumor had it that they were about to make a move on the Sons of Liberty. Tensions between the American colonies and the British government had approached a breaking point(“Paul Revere”).

On the night of April 18, 1775, at Lexington, Massachusetts, the British were planning an attack on the colonists(Leehey)(“Paul Revere”). Paul Revere had to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock of the oncoming British attack. Paul Revere and William Dawes were on the ride to warn them(“Paul Revere”). They were later joined by Samuel Prescott(Leehey). They had to ride on Horseback to warn Adams and Hancock(“Paul Revere”). If that method failed, then they had set up another warning system
