Washburn University’s Department of music presented its Symphony and String Orchestra Chamber Concert on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at White Concert Hall. The Washburn University Fetter String Quartet performed and was directed by Dr. Zsolt Eder. Dr. Martha Placeres was the director for the Washburn University String Orchestra. Lastly, Dr. Martha Placeres also took the role of director for Washburn University’s Symphony Orchestra. The Fetter String Quartet opened the show, playing two pieces titled String Quartet in G Major, Op. 76 No. 1 Allegro con spirito and String Quartet in F Major, Op. 96 “American” Lento. Following those performances, the Washburn University String Orchestra played Libertango and Con Aire de Tango, which consisted of the movements Madrid, Boston, Anchorage, and Los Angeles. It took only mere seconds to realize the talent of this quartet as they performed String Quartet in G Major, Op. 76 No. 1 Allegro con spirito. I found it to be a lengthy, but pleasant, tune. The next piece performed had a softer, more somber, melody. Overall, it was another excellent performance by a, once again, highly talented group.
