◦Summarize the differences and similarities between a Warning Line and a Controlled Access Zone.
The difference between a controlled access zone and warning lines is a controlled access zone may take place without the use of conventional fall protection systems such as guardrail, personal arrest or safety net to protect the employees working in the zone. When the access point is roped off the controlled access zoned the rope or chain must with stand a minimum of 200 lbs. and the warning line rope or chain must with stand a minimum of 500 lbs. (Reese, 2006)
◦Identify some of the difficulties in establishing a safety net system. The difficulties in establishing a safety net system is keeping track of the records knowing when that net was used last and when the last inspection was done. Measuring the distances and making sure the netting is at the right distance under the workers and wide enough.
◦List the conditions which dictate that fall protection is required on a scaffold. When an employee on a scaffold is more than 10 feet above a lower level, installing suspension scaffold support systems on floors, roof, and other elevated surfaces. (Reese, 2006)
◦Summarize the options available to achieve fall protection on a pole and platform type scaffold. The existing scaffold is to be left undisturbed when moving to the next level. Cross bracing and diagonal bracing is to be use on the in and outside of the scaffold. Pole scaffolds over 60 feet in height are to be designed by a registered professional engineer.
