In “Watchers”, a novel by Dean Koontz characterization is used to develop the theme that self-inner and outer leads to the perception of oneself. The novel had a big focus on Nora and her lack of self-confidence. For example, “Nora was unattractive and drab” showing she didn’t think highly of herself (Koontz 38). Nora claims to almost never look at herself in a mirror as well since she couldn’t bare to see her own reflection and to see the lies told by her Aunt Violet.
