1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Water situation in the world
According to water4tomorrow (2008) 70% of the earth surface is enclosed by water and out of this 70% approximately 98% is salt waterrand not good for drinking. Also to meet the water need of this ever increasing population of the world, the need to renew resources is essential. According to Petrella (1994) cited in Rastello (2007) states that approximately 1.5 million people lack access to adequate drinking water worldwide. One of the problems faced by many societies and the world in the 21st century is the problem of water scarcity (Alberto, 2002). Kanmony (2010) states that the availability of water is decreasing every day and this is increasing the number of countries been affected by water stress. Furthermore, According to UNO (1998 cited in Kanmony 2010) approximately 2 billion people around the world live in countries which have low availability of water.

1.2 Aim of report
In this report, water provision methods will be suggested for the region of Dubai which is desalination and water recycling method considering the two requirements in relation to Dubai which are cost and environmental impact. Before recommending the best water provision method for Dubai, the report will compare the two water provision methods.

2. BACKGROUND
2.1 Background information about Dubai
Dubai’s climate is hot with an average temperature of about 24 degrees Celsius in the month of January and approximately 42degrees Celsius in the month of July and the annual rainfall for Dubai is about 60mm (Bride, 2010). According Lis (2010) Dubai has a hot arid climate and it is classified as a country with extremely hot and short summers with a temperature of about 40 degree centigrade. Dubai has abundant hills and it has a mountain region in the east that serves as site attraction (Bennett, 2008). Dubai also has a gulf coast which contains marine lives such as dolphins, hawsbill and dugong (ibid). Furthermore, Dubai has hot arid conditions which support wild cats, Leopold, mountain goat. Dubai is classified to mostly make up of desert and have only a little part tree of vegetation (ibid). Dubai is one of the top tourist destinations (ibid)

2.2 Water situation in Dubai
Dubai is facing water problems because majority of the region is extremely arid. According to Lis (2010) Dubai has hot climate arid climate i.e. there is low rainfall and high temperature which leads to high evaporation. Dubai’s ability to develop new area is being limited by shortage of water (Sassen, 2002). According to oxford business group (2008) there is insufficient water supply in Dubai for irrigation as a result there is under usage of the arable
