The effectiveness of both Kevin Rudd’s and Emma Watson’s speech, relies on the universal value of justice. Both of the speakers involve relatable and credibility context, to show the audience the integrity of the speakers. They both effectively reply on the universal value through the topics of the stolen generation and gender inequality, to influence the responders’ perceptions and understand the importance of the issue. Rudd’s ‘Sorry Day’ speech is directed towards the stolen generation and contains Australian context, and Watson’s ‘HeForShe’ campaign speech is for international audiences and talks about the importance of gender inequality. Therefore, both Kevin Rudd and Emma Watson’s speeches are successful die to the speakers fighting for the rights for others and replying on the universal values of justice.

Rudd’s speech is dedicated towards the stolen generation, to apologise for the pain and suffer that was brought onto them. Throughout the speech, rhetorical strategies such as emotion appeals pathos, was effectively used to achieve his purpose of implying the universal value of justice. “Take away the pain you have suffered personally”, expresses the use of emotional appeals to empathise and evident that he understood the ‘pain, suffering and hurt’ that inflicted the stolen generation. Rudd also used logos to demonstrate that he will “close the equally appalling… in overall life expectancy”, to give the audience an understanding that it affected many lives, thus things will start to change and they will no longer suffer.
