There is something about hearing the national anthem play before a Waverly Tigers football game on Friday nights that will give you a sigh of relief. Listening to the anthem shows football managers have survived another Friday night. Some people think being a manager for Waverly Central High School is a very simple task; however, it is actually a very complicated job. In order to be prepared for everything that may be thrown your way during the game, you must start preparations early and make sure everything is completed for game time. Preparations will start on Thursday. During practice, you will have to take every boy’s jersey, white jerseys for away games and blue jerseys for home games, out of the closet and fold them in front of their lockers. Then, set aside the socks and pants of every size: small, medium, large, and extra large, for the coaches to hand out before the game. The preparation continues as you clean the coolers, bottles, and lids. They will soak in water with two and a half cups of bleach in the large metal tub which is used for ice baths. You will need three large coolers and a small one and fill them with ice. Also prepare seven carriers of water, which all contain six bottles each. By this time, the towels will be finished drying. You need to fold the towels and put them into a plastic container. This container is used as a precaution to keep the towels dry in case it rains. Once finished folding the towels, you need to fill two large coolers and all seven carriers with water. The small cooler will contain only ice, so if someone becomes injured during the game, there will be ice to make ice packs. The other large cooler will be filled with Gatorade so the boys can stay hydrated during the game. After you have finished with the coolers and carriers, you can then add those to the massive pile of supplies that will later be moved to the game
