Waverly's Character In The Most Dangerous Game

In the five different short stories that we have read in class, there are different type of character. Which all have various types of importance and personality that affect the story in its own distinct form.

Some of that character in the story may have a personality that changes throughout the stories. For example, in Rules of the Game, Waverly's mom changes drastically in the story. In the beginning, Waverly's mom was a typical "Tiger Mom". She was strict on her children's and still hold the classic Chinese concept and teaching. Such as allowing Waverly's brothers to have more privileges. And teaching her children to be humble and biting back her tongue. However, as when Waverly is able to gain success from her chest. Her mom is willing to assign Waverly's chores to her brothers and define traditional thinking that men are more important that women. Her mom also allows Waverly to become the most important figure in their household. Another example of character changes their mindset is also shown in The Most Dangerous Game. In the beginning, Rainsford loves to hunt and is always trying to look for larger and precious animals to hunt. However, after the encounter with General Zaroff. Rainsford might have approached the hunting with more respect for the animals. On the other hand, Rainsford might also be more ruthless after killing General Zaroff. After Rainsford killed Zaroff, he is still able to sleep soundly.

It may be used as a representation for something. In the story To Build a Fire, we never knew the man's name. The man was more of an icon of people that are too prideful and it end to his own demise. Even though Ms. Hutchinson was an important character in The Lottery, she also represents the society. They dislike the Lottery but they never speak up and just blindly
