There has always been a disagreement on the necessity of war and its effect on modern society. In the articles Weapons of the Spirit and The Arms Race by Albert Einstein, he seems to say different things about the topic of war. In Weapons, Einstein is saying that war should be used for a perfectly clear cause. However, in Arms he’s saying that if we keep making weapons of mass destruction then we will eventually end up killing each other. In the article Weapons of the Spirit, Einstein is saying that war should be fought for a meaningful cause. He states, “Men should continue to fight, but they should fight for things worthwhile, not for imaginary geographical lines, racial prejudices, and private greed draped in the colors of patriotism.” Here Einstein is saying that if the men were to go fight that it should be for a good cause, not for a fight that isn’t worth someone’s life. For example a worthy cause to fight for in war is fighting against injustice, making sure everyone has equal rights or in other words making justice for those who can’t do it themselves. He argues that, “Think of what a world we could build if the power unleashed in war were applied to constructive tasks!” What …show more content…
Einstein states, “On both side, means of mass destruction are being perfected with feverish haste and behind walls of secrecy.” Einstein here is saying that both sides of the war are creating extremely dangerous weapons very quickly and secretly. Furthermore he states, “We shall never achieve real peace as long as every step is taken with a possible future conflict in view, especially since it becomes ever clearer that such a war would spell universal annihilation.” In other words Einstein is saying we will never have a peaceful world as long as every action comes with a risk of war, especially now that such a war could very well end
