Out of all the topics that I encountered in Assassins Creed 3 the on that struck me as the most interesting, and therefore the one that I decided to research, was their flintlock weaponry. The reason that I decided on this is because with how much fire arms have evolved, they resemble their ancestors very little. So with this essay I wish to show how fire arms started and also give perspective to how far they have come. To start off the reason that flintlock weapons are called flintlock weapons is that they relied on the striking of flint causing a spark that set off the gunpowder that had to be poured down the barrel. In a modern firearm however a pin (in rifles and machine guns) or a hammer (in the case of handguns and some rifles.) These pins or hammers hit a primer that sets off its gunpowder. Another important difference between the two types of weaponry is that the flintlock weapons had to be manually loaded each time you wanted to shoot it, modern firearms however rely on a cartage based system that has the primer, powder, and bullet all in one, per-measured, case. This makes sure that you don't have to worry about measuring powder wrong and blow shatter parts of it, rendering the weapon useless. …show more content…
