Things change, times change, and even people change, but memories always stay the same. Some are full of happiness and good times while others are shockingly haunting. In the Book welfare brat by Mary Childers, Mary’s mother plays a huge role not just in Mary’s life, but on most people mentioned in the memoir. Through the first half of the book, she is introduced as an alcoholic and a lady who spends nights with multiple men. Sandy is a single mother of seven children who almost all have different fathers. She and her family are in the welfare system, but she cheats the system by working outside jobs to get extra cash. Though it is not directly stated throughout the book, there are many clues that are shown and proven throughout how Sandy is not exactly the most fit mother and how she could possibly have Borderline Personality Disorder. Ultimately, she loves her children and stands up for them when they were physically and/or verbally threaten. But, Sandy did have her challenges with impulsive behavior, being too intense or unstable in different situations. Sandy’s children will never forget the rough moments they had with their mother and those memories will most likely have a great impact on how they will be as adults. It was very big of Sandy to start turning things around, but even doing so the older and not so pleasant memories will not be erased. It is extremely important that every day we are cautious of what we do and say to people for we do not know how and how long the things we do could affect them for better for
