The Great Gatsby was set in New York City and on Long Island during the Prohibition era in two specific areas known as West Egg and East Egg. Nick Carraway, the novel's narrator actually lived in West Egg to learn about business while his family member all live in East Egg. The novel is a story about a young man named Nick who recently graduated from Yale, who moved to New York city and lives next door to a man named Gatsby. Gatsby always throws a fancy party in his mansions and invites Nick one day and Nick found out that Gtasby loves Daisy and he wants Nick to set up a meeting between the two. When Daisy kills Myrtle the mistress of her husband Tom, Gatsby protects her and lies, saying he committed the crime which led to his death. West Egg and East Egg both represent the ongoing divisions in society. East Egg is where the “Old money” lives and they represent the elite and have money throughout generations while West egg represents those who just acquire wealth and theses people made the wealth in the 1920s. The 1920s were the roaring twenties the economy was booming and a lot of construction was taking place at that time. There were a places called “Valley of Ashes”it was a symbolic symbol in the book the Great Gatsby. It was a real place where there was many ashes and the land that is dead. The Stock Market in the 1920s was booming and became pretty famous, everyone was buying and selling stocks. The plaza hotel which Nick in the Great Gatsby had tea with Jordan Baker is a very popular hotel for rich people to stay in while they are in town. The period of the 1920s was widely regarded as an era prosperity, unemployment amongst the urban workers remained the same and some living conditions improve.
