Have you ever heard of a group of people that tells people that they are going to hell, God hates them, and thanks god that there are dead soldiers? Meet the Westboro Baptist Church, a controversial church that spreads its message of anti-gay rights, how God hates America and Obama, and how America’s soldiers were going to hell. The Westboro Baptist Church always makes sure that they don’t break the law, but I disagree with the Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Westboro Baptist Church to protests at military funerals, because some of the words and phrases could be interpreted as fighting words, which are not protected by the first amendment.
To understand this essay to the fullest, you will need to know what the Westboro Baptist Church is. They are a religious group founded by Rev. Fred Phelps and is mostly made up by his family. They believe that believes that “America is doomed,” because America supports gay rights. They believe that 9/11, and dead soldiers are God’s will for supporting gay rights. They also go through streets of Kansas and other states holding up controversial signs like, “Priests rape boys, Fags doom America, and Thank god for dead soldiers.”
