The fall of the Western Roman Empire was not done through one event but several in the course of many years. Some of the causes for the decline, include internal and external events such as the introduction of Christianity, an abundance of slaves, lack of representation in the government, and high taxation.

Very few of the citizens had believed that their civilization was worth saving (doc.1), the lack of pride and effort would contribute to the Empire's downfall. With the class system, "majority of the population had been systematically excluded from political responsibilities " (doc.1) The citizens were not able to protect themselves or serve in the army.
