Human Participants Ethical Scenario After reading the information regarding the ethical scenario, I would have to say that there are some ethical issues that have been raised. Using an actor or research confederate to help deceive an innocent volunteer is cruel and unethical. Deceiving an individual by “faking” the death of someone can have adverse effects. Dealing with death is never an easy event for anyone to get over, in fact death has caused a lot of people I know to go into a deep states of depression. The researchers informed the participants that they would be trying to see how quickly they are able to form a bond, which was inaccurate. I understand that the unsuspecting volunteer would be dealing with the loss of a complete stranger but if they have recently lost someone close to them this could drastically shape their grieving. …show more content…
I do not feel as though anyone being tricked into believing someone died is a good idea, in fact there are alternative ways to get some of the same information. If I was a researcher and I was surveying the reaction to death I would visit local hospitals and sit in the ICU or Emergency Room waiting areas, where real results like this happen often. If I were unable to gain the information I needed from sitting around hospitals I would visit a local funeral home, where families visit daily and conduct my research
