Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. overall goal for his I Have a Dream was for it to be impactful for people of every race and he wanted to persuade to believe in his views of equality and segregation. When Dr. King was presenting his speech he was being formal but he was also being very powerful with his tone of voice. The talk card Dr. King used mainly was his leader card. He wanted people to support his views and wanted their support for every drastic he made. He also used an informative/teacher card because he mentioned the Emancipation Proclamation and Abraham Lincoln. This is very important for him to do because it sets the stage for him to talk about how one-hundred years have passed, but the black people are still treated like slaves and unfairly. Dr. King was definitely using multiple cards because he wanted his speech to be effective and without if he didn’t use multiple cards, his speech would not have been as effective in inspiring people to bring about change. He had to inspire the audience to help him do that and wanted everyone in the crowd to be motivated to take more action in a non-violence way. The audience also wanted to stop segregation and make everyone treat each other as equals. They needed someone to give them the motivation and reason to start taking action for that to happen. Both the audience and Dr. King had the same goal that’s why he had so much support. Their goals were very similar. Dr. King wanted to inspire the people to make change and have support. The audience was looking for a leader to guide them through it. Without the motivation and leader cards, Dr. King would not have been able to achieve his own goals or satisfy the audiences’.
