In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the character Piggy represents the wisdom and logic of a post-apocalyptic society. He constantly implores the boys to make wise and logical choices but their ignorance and abuse of him leads to actions that slowly destroy the boys’ society. The slow destruction of several symbols related to Piggy also outline the gradual decline of the society in a sacrificial context.
