Symbolism shown through simple objects
"There is only one thing more precious than our time and that’s who we spend it on” This quote by Leo Christopher not only relates to life, but specifically Gatsby’s life. The Great Gatsby shows symbolism all throughout the novel, Fitzgerald uses the symbols of the clock and the green light to help develop the themes about the past and the American Dream. In chapter three, Fitzgerald uses an old clock as a symbolism of the theme the past can never be recovered because people continue to change who they are. The first time Fitzgerald mentioned the clock was when it started to fall, "Luckily the clock took this moment to tilt dangerously
