The Symbolism in The Great Gatsby
This essay on The Great Gatsby, will show the symbolism that happens throughout the whole book. Also, it will be explaining how the eyes on the oculist’s sign and the owl-eyed man hold a deep meaning of symbolism throughout the book. The owl-eyed man is like a person of wisdom, who is the main character that describes with things that happen with death and the main oath of Gatsby at the end. The oculist’s sign shows eyes that are like, God, throughout the book and is watching everything in town and what is happening. They connect the owl-eyed man and the oculist’s sign by using them both to symbols key points in the book and what will all happen, creating how the theme will be made up.

Owls symbolize wisdom or can be a sign of death. He is the one who causes the accident outside of Gatsby’s house and that when he got out of the car, he relieved that it wasn’t him driving. This is making him act like he is being a sign of death that is happening “Don’t ask me,” said the Owl eyes, washing his hands of the whole matter. “I know very little about driving” (Fitzgerald 54). The owl-eyes man also shows up at Gatsby’s funeral, but you gotta remember he is a symbol of death. He is there because, he is showing his respect and he is also the only character to stress the main purpose of Gatsby “look here, old sport, you’ve got to get somebody for me. You’ve got to try hard.
