A hero is a person who gives his/her life and time to help us get a clue about how to solve the problems and questions of our life . ''Skinheads & rock stars—or saints?''. Modern day heroes are shallow, shadowy, insubstantial, and are often referred to as idols ''Skinheads & rock stars—or saints?''. A hero used to be a strong person that would fight against anything or anyone about problems in society. Nowadays heroes look different and act different, in order to be a hero now you need money and power; appearances are important to see how people treat you and how much power you have. Beowulf is the hero of Geats, he meets the traits of a perfect hero. Beowulf was called for help by the King of Danes, Hrothgar. A monster called Grendel attacked Danes and later on Beowulf fighted him, during the fight he takes out his clothes since Grendel was not wearing any armor, this showed us his fairness among the enemy. Then he fights Grendel's mom, during the fight Beowulf got vulnerable, Grendel's mom was winning the fight at some point but he manages to kill her with his strength and fierce. Lastly he fights a dragon and with his knife he cuts the dragon's throat, where the dragon's heart was located, Beowulf kills the dragon saving Danes and helping the city to gel out of danger. On the other hand , Achilles is a Greek hero, son of a king and a nymph. Achilles goes to war with the Greeks to fight the Trojans since Paris took Helen from Agamemnon's brother. He arrives to Troy with 50 ships full of soldiers and the war began. At the beginning Achilles didn't fight much, Achilles and Agamemnon were always discussing, Achilles then finds a girl who happens to be Trojan and he changes ever since, he respected more woman and was acting differently, but he kept avoiding war, until his cousin Patroclus went out to fight with Achilles' armor and was killed by a Trojan called Hector, Achilles was looking for revenge and he fights Hector himself and kills him. Beowulf brings his warriors to fight and he does not care if they get hurt or die, he brags about his abilities, he does not give credit to his warriors and he treats women like objects and not as people, however Achilles fights for the people he cares about, protect his warriors, is fair, cares about women, does not brag and gives credit to the warriors he fights with. The way they act and what they say makes them be both different.
Achilles is for me the better hero because he changed and he started acting as a better person, he respects the people that surrounds him, and treat them as family. Achilles is also a warrior that knows when and how to fight, he would not go and fight something that it’s not worth it even if someone important would ask him. He is strong and a good leader for battle.
Beowulf and Achilles are both great heroes who fight to save someone else's life, however there are some differences between them that could make them be completely opposite. Heroes can be similar and have some of the same traits, but at the end one of them would have to be the best. Beowulf and Achilles are both strong, powerful, good looking, and are protective, however, one of them treats women better, has more courage, respects people and it's protective. A lot of people would call themselves ''heroes'' but in the long run you discover why is he/she a hero and who will
