Carl Gustav Jung was born on July 26, 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland. His father Paul Achilles Jung was a poor rural pastor in the Swiss Reformed church. His mother Emilie Preiswerk came from a wealthy family. He as one sister by the name of Johanna Gertrud Jung, but not much is said about her. Their mother suffered from some type of mental illness and was in and out of the hospital. As a child Jung was described as an introvert, he was happy when he was left alone to his thoughts. While in grade school, he suffered a head injury, which caused him to start fainting. He studied herded and eventually he overcame the problem. While in school, Jung was interested in religious thoughts, philosophy, and archaeology and chose to pursue a degree in medicine.
