The main character Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is George Milton. George is a migrant worker who has taken on the responsibility of taking care of his friend Lennie Smalls, a tall, strong man who suffers from a mild disability. Throughout the novel, George has many weaknesses, conflicts, and strengths. While George is quick tempered, he is also protective, responsible, and smart. He faces numerous conflicts, but most of them are a result of Lennie’s actions.
George has many weaknesses in the novel Of Mice and Men. On of his weaknesses is his temper. George often gets frustrated with Lennie and reminds Lennie how much better his life would be if Lennie was not a part of it. He sometimes is insensitive to Lennie’s disability and allows his vexation to get the best of him. On page 15 it says “If you get in trouble Lennie, hide in the brush till I come for you…” this shows how George wants Lennie to be safe. George, though he can get frustrated with Lennie, he still loves him and would do anything for him. Sometimes George is rough and hard on Lennie but he is only trying to guide and teach Lennie how to live in this world; “But you ain’t gonna get in no trouble, because if you do, I won’t let you tend the rabbits” this quote on page 16 shows that George is trying to keep Lennie safe by promising to let him tend to the rabbits but George is also making sure that Lennie tries to stay out of trouble or else he won’t get to tend to the rabbits.
George though he may be quick tempered, he is very intelligent and watchful. Throughout the novel George learns that it is not right to take advantage of the weak. The reader is able to see that by everything George goes through he is able to change unlike
