The captivity of Mary white Rowland narrates the experiences she had when being captured by Native Americans. Her experiences convey the brutal attacks and treatment she received by the Natives. As a puritan woman in a puritan society, she believes that having full faith in her religion Christianity and her faith with god will help her get through this captivity. She believes that the captivity is a will from god therefore she must have true faith in order to still be considered a true puritan Christian which will save her from her captivity. Through her narration Rowlands projects her Christian perspectives within her puritan society and culture which cause an instant judgement towards the Native Americans and their culture. The statement clearly depicts a clear visual of how important the role of Christianity plays in the puritan culture. Through Mary Rowlands puritan beliefs she is aware that a good puritan Christian woman will get God’s help and give her strength. She expresses that “God was with me in a wonderful manner, carrying me along, and bearing up my spirit, that it did not quite fail” (Rowlandson). Through this statement Rowlandson reveals that puritan beliefs will help a person who is found at their lowest point in life, just like she was when she was captured by the Indians. Rowlandson also mentions that God is her only strength and that he will help her get out from the captivity. She believes that having strong puritan Christian values will lead to her survival and help her stay as the true puritan Christian woman she is in order to survive in her own society as well as in others that contradict her
