What Is The Meaning Behind Dinosaurs

Gould proposed an intriguing statement regarding the popularity behind dinosaurs stating that “…dinosaurs were just as big, as fierce, and as extinct forty years ago, but only a few nerdy kids, and even fewer professional paleontologists, gave a damn about them” (223). This statement arises countless ambiguous questions that overstates the meaning behind dinosaur’s extinction. Throughout the article Gould uses expressive diction to describe these creatures in the sense of their once existent. He uses words such as “rostrum,” “ferocious,” “speculative” and “entombed” to describe these ancient creatures. Through my eyes the character did a poor job playing their roles with acting and dialogue. There are cringy moments like when the Tyrannosaurus breaks loose, and the granddaughter drew the creature’s attention by turning on the flashlight or when Alan and the granddaughter hides behind the car while the Tyrannosaurus tramples over the car. The film itself is most certainly intriguing because it exerts this idea of a world that dinosaur could’ve roamed if not extinct. I thought the film did an outstanding job captivating these prehistoric creatures calls while still making it reasonably realistic. We also must acknowledge the fact that this movie was created in 1993, the technology during that time is considerably astonishing. “Jurassic Park is “just” a movie…the filmmakers had freedom (and funds) to develop techniques of reconstruction, particularly computer generation, to new heights of astonishing realm” (231). Watching the movie makes it seem like there’s a possibility, but after reviewing Gould’s theory, there might be some flaws to it.
