What Is The Use Of Propaganda In Animal Farm

In the satirical novel Animal Farm by George Orwell, animals are led through persuasion all throughout the book. After overthrowing the owners of their farm, the pigs step up to lead the animals. The animals are forced to do things that go against their original ideas of animalism after being persuaded into them with the use of propaganda. Propaganda is the use of lies and manipulation in order to persuade people to do things the way you want. This is clearly seen by the actions of the pigs on animal farm. Orwell proves that people are not at fault when at the receiving end of propaganda.

Fear is used in order to frighten people, causing them not to think clearly. Due to this, the animals start to rethink or change their doubtful thoughts based on the pigs actions and leadership. For example, Napoleon has dogs with him at all times to guard himself in order to keep all the animals away. He warns the animals that they will be executed if any of them stand against him. Additionally, the pigs frequently threaten the animals by saying that Mr. Jones will come back, and they convince them that that is the worst thing to happen. They do this in order to persuade the animals to drop their suspicions and continue to follow in their lead.

As a result to this, no one stands up for themselves knowing they have no say. Everyone knows the pigs are the smartest. So when the pigs lead, they abuse their power by convincing the animals lies for their own personal sake. Also, Old Major is a very well known and respected animal on the farm. He made promises and made a plan for their future. All the animals were persuaded by Old Major and rebelled against the humans. They did not know any better, rather than to listen to these leaders, they trusted
