Tim Burton's cinematic style can be described as dark, gothic and grotesque, but it is juxtaposed with a certain childlike innocence and quirkiness. Burton adopts styles from writers who inspire him such as, Edgar Allan Poe, Dr. Seuss, and the Brothers Grimm. As a child, Tim Burton always had a fascination with the darker aspects of children's stories that the Grimm stories appreciated also. The Brothers Grimm create stories intended for children but don't have happy endings. Instead, they teach children somewhat broken morals, that seem more realistic than the fairytale Disney has created.
