What Makes Us Normalize Drug Usage?

Elizabeth, I agree that television as a whole normalizes drug usage and at times it is exaggerated. For example, certain shows may show an actor take multiple drugs at a time including alcoholic beverages but in the real world it may cause death. Another concern are the advertisements in relation to prescriptions drugs, tobacco and alcohol that are legal. These types of advertisements influence the viewers. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics research, those who are in charge of advertising spend around 25 million dollars every year on ads that promote prescription drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and 30% percent of the viewers end up using one of the three influenced by these types of advertisements. According to Benjamin (2016), films that have intense scenes can increase the viewer’s blood pressure and heart rate. People who have a weak cardiovascular system could be at risk while watching.
