Have you ever done something that is normally not in your comfort zone? It is normal to experience this resistance to change because it appears in everyday life as well as in every story. Change allows groups of people or societies to grow to their fullest potential. In contrast, resisting change results in minimal growth. By resisting change, people will try to complete a task to prevent this altercation in their lives. In all stories, characters tend to dislike change as it affects them greatly. In the writings, “The Wife’s Story”; “What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish?”; and “American Flag Stands for Tolerance”, the plot revolves around a resistance of change and the intransigence of differences during daily life.

In this story, a young boy named Yonatan or Yoni has an idea to film people while they speak of three wishes that they would wish for. When he knocks on Sergei’s door, an old Russian man, he finds goldfish and rushes into the house to get them on video. Because of this action by Yoni, the author states “Before the mind of Sergei Goralick really understands what it is his body had done, he seems to have taken the burner off the stove and hit the boy in the head.” (Keret 6) Sergei had killed the boy with burner. Sergei had used two of his wishes and he had one left. He used his final wish on the boy to revive him. This inhumane action of killing Yoni over goldfish shows that a person intruding on Serge's life is not in his comfort zone and therefore Sergei would do anything to combat this and by doing so he killed the boy. After accepting his actions Sergei then decided to fix his action and accept and relish the new change in life. This problem in the story expresses that people will go to great lengths to stop and prevent alterations in daily and societal life before finally accepting and embracing
