Teens being viewed as adults is a touchy topic. You may ask “Why they are just kids?” And i agree with the argument that they shouldn't be treated/viewed as grown ups. With age comes responsibility and teens physically age, but our maturity doesn’t necessarily develop at the same pace. We are too young to handle things such as taxes, mortgages, children, etc. Teens are too reliant on their parents or adults in general, too reliant to be able to face the real world alone. The argument “old enough to fight, old enough to vote” brings up a questionable claim for multiple reasons. Just because they are a certain age it doesn’t always necessarily mean they are prepared for the responsibilities of adulthood. Knowing that teens aren’t the best at making mature decision isn’t exactly rocket science. Neuroscientist know that maturation continues far later into development. There's isn’t an exact age where a teen brain become an adult brain. In the article “What the Brain Says About Maturity” it says “Indeed, some brain regions and systems do not reach full development until the early 20’s.” This shows that there isn’t a full or exact transition from being a teen to an adult. …show more content…
This generation is too dependent on technology and the parents constantly buying everything and not giving the teen enough independence. Teens are too attached to parents and they constantly get babied. In the story “Mandatory Service to Become an Adult” it says that “overprotected by their parents and spending vast amounts of time in front of TV, computers and cellphones(over 50 hours a week by middle adolescence, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation), they are less skilled in the world, less able to build friendships and function in groups..” This shows that because they are so dependent on grown ups they become less skilled, and find themselves having trouble in the real
