The abolitionist movement spanned decades. Although it was far from a peaceful end to slavery, a group of men quickly became the forces and strength to move forward with the anti-slavery movement. The movement itself gained its greatest influence from 1829-1850. Abolitionists wanted to bring an end to slavery with non-violent means by trying to persuade the public as well as try to bring in anti-slavery politicians into electoral positions. When this did not work, a war to have slavery come to an end began.
