Assassination of Julius Caesar
The Roman Empire’s greatest leader has been assassinated. On March 15th, 44 B.C.E., 60 senators assassinated the Roman dictator, Julius Caesar, by stabbing him to death. The 60 senators pulled daggers from under their togas and stabbed Caesar 23 times during a senate meeting. (TedTalk 3:01-3:52) He was wrongfully killed because he helped the people of Rome and the Roman Empire by helping the empire grow and taking care of his people by creating reforms and policies to aid them in becoming financially stable and live as comfortable as possible.
Julius Caesar was a great leader and cared deeply about his people. He loved helping them and especially the lower-class and middle-class citizens. He took lots of action towards helping his citizens and an example of this is him, offering the poor, a new life in Rome’s overseas colonies.(steven 1) This allowed to for the poor to start over and get financially stable. Another example is he arranged for better supervision of the grain supply. (steven 1) This helped the poor get access to grains, which they greatly depended on. Caesar did nothing wrong and did not deserve to die. He did not only help the poor, but he also helped the Roman Empire’s economy by alleviating Rome’s debt.

The senators thought that Caesar was going to get rid of the senate. (Donald 1) This, they thought, would lead him to become a future tyrant. With Caesar’s growing, power it also caused mass hysteria and angst among the politicians who saw him as an aspiring king. (biography.com) It had been centuries since they last let a king rule them and they had no desire to be under a monarchical rule again. But these were just conspiracies and they could not be proven. The senators feared what they did not know and this caused them to react by killing him and it was not
