“Give me liberty or give me Death!” These famous words were said in Patrick Henry’s War Inevitable speech that ushered for war against Great Britain. In fact, it was indeed necessary to arm the Virginian militia because Parliament had not attempted to appease the colonists and taxation was not used as an excuse to declare independence for selfish gains. Parliament never tried to appease colonists; as a matter of fact it was the reverse: the colonists tried to appease Parliament. The colonists were also forced to declare independence not because they were selfish or unpatriotic, but because they were given no choice too, seeing as the British refused to cooperate with them.

Colonists were given no choice but to declare independence seeing as the British refused to settle out their differences. “Gentlemen may cry, peace, peace - but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms,” another one of Henry’s points made in his War of Inevitable speech that states that war has started because the British will not listen to their protests forcing them to war. They had no choice but to go to war after the King enacted the Prohibitory Act because the King announced the colonies as rebels and used military force to control them. Henry’s speech also says, “Are fleets and armies necessary to a work of love and reconciliation? Have we shown ourselves so unwilling to be reconciled that force must be called in to win back our love? Let us not deceive ourselves, sir. These are the implements of war and subjugation - the last arguments to which kings resort.” In this statement Henry is telling his audience that war was inevitable from the start because Parliament could only control Britain through violence. England and America acted as they were separate countries and the only way to control America was through military power. Having said this war between the two was not because colonists were greedy and unpatriotic, but rather because of Britain’s use of military
