The Maven mission was launched on November 18th, in 2014. The purpose of the Maven space mission was to study the atmosphere, ionosphere, and sun and solar wind's interaction with the planet Mars. Mission goals also included determining how the planet's atmosphere and water were lost over time due to the sun. Key questions scientist had for this mission were what happened to the water and thick atmosphere of Mars?
The instruments carried on the space mission were innovative. Maven’s three instrument packages used on the mission, provided measurements essential to understand the evolution of Mars's atmosphere.
