President George Washington was the first president of the United States, he was born on February 22, 1732. He married a widowed woman named Martha Dandridge Custis. He never had his own children but Martha had two from her previous marriage. Washington wasn’t just the President of the United States, he was also a former military general for the Revolutionary War and tobacco planter. He died at the age of 67 in the year 1799.
George Washington had many accomplishments. One of his biggest ones was in October 1781, Washington, his troops and the French Navy defeated Cornwallis at Yorktown. In 1755 the British had planned to attack the French forces at Fort Duquesne, Fort Niagara and Crown Point. Washington escaped with injuries with four bullet holes in his cloak. “Though he fought bravely, he could do little to turn back the rout and led the broken army back to safety.” (biography.com) In that same year Washington was made commander of all Virginia troops at the age of 23.

One of them was failing to persuade his two cabinet members (Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson) to work together. With him not being able to persuade Hamilton and Jefferson to work together, they both resigned from Washington’s cabinet and seeked control of the presidency. “True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation,” said George Washington. Washington also favored Hamilton over Jefferson, he planned to establish the national credit and build a financially powerful nation.
