Lying; Is it worth it? Since the beginning of time we have been taught to never lie to people no matter the reason and that it hurts other people along with ourselves in the process. We have also been taught that there are consequences when we lie and that we always need to face them because we deserve them. However, the more we grow up the more we begin to learn about why people lie, whether it is to keep someone from getting hurt or merely to get out of facing a problem. We all know liars. The vast majority of us become liars from time to time. Sometimes, the lying seems very necessary, for we lie to spare someone else hurt feelings, or we lie to help someone else out of a jam, or we lie because the lie is so minor that it is not going to affect anyone negatively, but will affect us positively, so it seems to be quite justified. Something a majority of us notice is when people lie on the news. It is beginning to happen more often. We lie on the news telling the viewers what we think they want to hear or fail to add parts we think should not be heard. Today all the people live in a competition for been accepted by others, whether it is in school, jobs or society. In general they will do whatever is possible to achieve this; including lying, no matter what the consequence are. We lie to do better in school with cheating. We lie in interviews to get the job or better job. You cannot lie in job interviews, eventually they will see the real you. At present, it seems that people attach little importance to conceal the truth, of bearing false witness and therefore a dishonest act is tolerated by our society. It takes courage to tell the truth and hold it. We must maintain our values and teach the people around us such as friends and family to be honest
