In the story “what we talk about when we talk about love” by Raymond Carver it follows Nick and his wife’s visit over to Mel McGinnis’s house. The story is full of realistic descriptions such as, the type of jewelry Terri was wearing, what Mel looked like and all of the facial expressions of the characters. However at the end of the story, there is one unrealistic description. Nick said “I could hear my heart beating. I could hear everyone’s heart.”() This this description is used to show how quiet the kitchen was where Nick was sitting.
