Have you ever wonder how strong love is to have a red fern grow.. Were The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls is a story about what love is, and the red fern is a symbol of the deepest kind of love. Where The Red Fern Grows tells a story of loyalty companionship, persistence, and most of all love. In the novel love is shown from billy and his parents, billy and his dogs, and the dogs love for each other.

One prominent example of love in this book is the love between Billy and his parents. When Billy goes into town to get his dogs he gets a little something for everyone in his family and something that his parents would want and needed. “Realizing that all was forgiven, I stood up and dried my eyes” (50,Rawls). A red fern is an example of the deepest and most powerful types of love and was an example of why Old Dan and Little Ann’s connection was so strong because a red fern was growing from where the two of them were buried. “ ‘Billy can you see it’ said mama ‘see what’ Billy said ‘the red fern’ mama said’ “ ( 00, Rawls). What this means is that the love between Old Dan and Little Ann was one of the deepest and most powerful kinds of love out there. The love of these dogs had will not match most other kinds of love because of the time and the life that they have spent with each other.
