Determination to Undertake a Mission What drives people to undertake a mission. A person undertakes a mission because they want to learn something new, or discover, and curiosity overcomes of them. Barrio Boy, Other side of the Sky, and Where the Red Fern Grows all have characters that are brave and have courage, that overcame challenges and have been determined the whole time while doing them. They all have their own challenges in each story and they all are determined to conquer them. For all of these stories all of the characters are determined.

In the story Barrio boy Ernesto was curious about the new language ,the new country that he moved to, and his new school. He was determined to learn the new language and speak it fluently. While the process he met Miss Ryan which was his teacher and he loves her. When he first met his principal (Mrs. Hopley) he thought she was scary and mean and “was a match for giants” , but as he got to meet her he began to love her. He was very determined to learn a new language and everyday he put effort into his learning it also helped that he loves his teacher Miss Ryan.
