Peggy McIntosh describes in her article “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack” that those with privilege usually are not willing to admit that they are in fact privileged. She uses another obvious instance of privilege within the sexes to begin her argument. To this day it is very obvious that men are more privileged than women. Men are able to recognize that women have disadvantages solely because of their sex but are often not nearly as able to recognize that they as men are over privileged. Such denials call for taboos surrounding the idea that men can gain from women’s disadvantages.
