Whitetail deer have undergone an interesting history as they have evolved from their mule deer ancestors. They have undergone many changes to their physical appearance due to the fact their habitat has changed. They had a thinner coat due to the warmer climate, they changed to a light brownish fur to hide from their predators in dry grass. Their diet had to change due to the food variation.
