Question 3: The idea of fate as Romeo claims “ I am fortune’s fool” is to show that there is a development of events beyond Romeo’s control. When Romeo kills Tybalt out of revenge, he assumes that Juliet will no longer love him. He describes his fate as fortune’s fool because he has killed family of his wife, Juliet and he thinks she will despise him for doing so. People have different ideas of fate but it depends on how they are feeling at the time of the current event. Juliet might feel her fate is questionable because she has not only married an enemy but also a killer of her cousin, Tybalt. When Juliet sees him, she also falls in love and they kiss where nobody can see them. But what they don’t know is that they are enemies towards each other because of the feud between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s. Romeo and Juliet are still in love and doesn’t want to part away from each other because of the love they have towards one another. When they find out that they are enemies, everything is resolved into a conflict.They get married leaving only the nurse, audience, and Friar Lawrence knowing about it. They go through trouble trying to be with each other without people knowing, when the time comes when Lord/Lady Capulet force Juliet in marrying Paris, Friar Lawrence helps Juliet fake her death so that she could run away with Romeo. However, Balthasar sees that Juliet is dead but doesn’t know it’s just Juliet in a comma. He tells Romeo who was supposed to receive a letter, but never did because it was too late. When Romeo hears this, he goes to the tomb where Juliet is is lying and says how much he loves her and he mourns. He says his final vows and drinks poison which kills him instantly leaving Juliet waking up to see her true love lying dead on the ground. Romeo had died and she stabs herself which kills her. Romeo drunk poison because he thought his true love, Juliet was dead. Juliet stabbed herself because her true love, Romeo was actually dead. Even though they killed themselves, it didn’t make anything better because that wasn’t a mature way of showing love for someone. Romeo and Juliet did not have to kill themselves, they could’ve used a more healthier way of solving their problem. They could’ve confronted their parents and demand they be married without any family feud getting in the way. There were many other solutions to help fix their problem but they chose the wrong one. Suicide will not help solve a problem, it only makes matters
