The truth is hard to swallow when you’re choking on your pride. In the beginning, Johnny Tremain was an extremely prideful fourteen year old boy, who was excellent at being a silversmith. He continuously gloated about himself and his talent. Then something tragic happened to him that completely wrecked his career and changed his life for the better. When you are prideful you tend to look at your own life through a telescope, but others with a microscope. You shut people out when you actually might need them in your life. Johnny never realized how prideful he was until he burnt his hand on silver and became crippled. It flipped his world upside down, and then he realized his pridefulness caused damage. First, he was only looking for the faults in people; second, he never realized what he was capable of. Third, he noticed that he was only hurting himself. So his master kicked him out of his house, unless he could find a job. Johnny searched and searched but nobody would hire him because he was crippled. Then he met Rab, and he was hired there to help with the printing company. Later, he and Rab helped fight for their country. Sadly, Rab passed away but Johnny actually felt like he was worth something again because all the denial crushed his confidence and his pride. He never knew what he was capable of until he went and tried something new and he loved it. Lastly, Johnny realized that he was only hurting himself. When his master warned him in the beginning about being prideful, he flat out ignored him and it caused him to be even more prideful. He looked down on others as if he knew what was best for everything. He felt like he was superior and people should be privileged to have him involved with something.
