In the story “There Will Come Soft Rains”, a very important aspect that is missing are the people. The only proof of the human race that remains are traces of the family and echoes of their voices, “The five spots remained, the man, the woman, the children, the ball-- remained. The rest was a thin charcoaled layer.”. Rad Bradbury does not put people in the story, instead, he creates a futuristic house that carries out the duties and responsibilities that humans would do on a daily basis, yet they are not present. He focuses on the irony in the story of the strengths and weaknesses that nature has with human beings extinct and how life will go on. Will nature strive on its own once mankind vanishes or will it deplete to rubble?
