Who Caused Macbeth’s Downfall
Was It Macbeth Himself?

In the story Macbeth by Shakespeare, the topic of discussion becomes who caused Macbeth’s downfall. There is many instances in the story that would lead the audience to believe that it could have been any character in the story Macbeth. One of the major instances that comes about in this writing has to do with how Macbeth himself acts towards everyone else. When his downfall started to happen in the first couple of scenes, that is when you could tell that he was changing, because of the way that he started to act towards everyone he knew, and even cared about. In the story Macbeth, there is one main person that is responsible for the downfall of Macbeth, and it is Macbeth himself. He is responsible for three main reasons: him choosing to ignore what he thinks is the right thing to do, him thinking that everyone is out to get him, him letting his mind get the best of him.

When the idea of killing King Duncan came about to him, he constantly went back and forth whether or not it was a good idea to kill him. It was Lady Macbeth in act 2 scene 2, line 692, she says “These deeds must not be thought after these ways; so, it will make us mad.” This helped lead to Macbeth ignoring his thoughts and leading to acknowledge the thoughts of others. This is what began his downfall, because he started to not think for himself. He was letting others, like Lady Macbeth, make decisions for him.
