1. Dumogo-nya-mogo, the ruler of the land of Do, angered a relative whom turned into a buffalo and terrorized his subjects. Two poor brothers from the Manden, Dan Mansa Wulandan and Dan Mansa Wulana, defeated the buffalo with advice from an old woman whom they had helped with kindness. Dumogo-nya-mogo awarded the boys a bride, Sogolon Conde, whom denied both and was traded to the ruler of Narena, Nare Famagan Cenyi for another woman.

Sogolon Conde had the first-born son of Nare Famagan Cenyi, however a handmaiden was late delivering the news and another bride of Nare’s had a son who was awarded the status of first-born instead. Sogolon’s son, Sunjata, grew to become a great hunter and was seen as a threat to the first-born. Sunjata choose exile and eventually the land of Narena was overrun by Sumanguru, ruler of Sossos.

Sunjata returned to Narena and fought for rule of his homeland but Sumanguru’s sorcery was a hindrance. Sunjata’s sister used seduction to find out Sumanguru’s weakness and Sunjata used this knowledge to defeat Sumanguru and gain his homeland back.
2. The two brothers and Sunjata are the obvious heroes of this tale. The brothers defeated the buffalo and set Sogolon on the path which would lead to Sunjata. Sunjata defeated the tyrant Sumanguru to reclaim his
