Black Swan created in 2010 is an American psychological thriller- horror film, directed by Darren Aronofsky. The plot revolves around a production of Tchailkovsky’s Swan Lake ballet. The production requires a ballerina to play the innocent and fragile White Swan, for which the committed dancer, Nina Sayers, is the perfect fit. The production also requires a dark and sensual Black Swan, which are qualities embodied by the fellow ballerina, Lily. Throughout the course of the movie, Nina becomes increasingly more overwhelmed by feelings of immense pressure for perfection. In this dream, she pictures herself as receiving the lead role as the white swan in the new production of Swan Lake. What her unconscious tells is that Nina has the aspiration to become the ideally impeccable, supreme ballerina in the prestigious New York City Company. Additionally to Nina’s character, it is displayed the ballerina required a strong desire for validation, approval and connectedness with her mother, Erica Sayers. At most all points in the movie Nina relies heavily on her mother (by calling her in her moments of need, living with her, pleasing her, etc.) and her mother relies on Nina as well (by having Nina live there, by helping Nina succeed, knowing all things about Nina’s life). However Nina’s mother throughout the course of the movie tries to suppress Nina’s sexual and unacceptable impulses. In the movie Erica Sayers says she doesn't want Nina to make the same mistakes she did, which was to fall pregnant with Nina which ultimately destroyed the mothers dancing career. Keeping her daughter innocent, happy and focused on dancing seem to be her intention and purpose in life; and on the surface, Nina seems to embrace
