Who Is The Protagonist In Catcher In The Rye

Holden is a troubled boy that is the protagonist in J.D salinger's book the Catcher in the Rye. This book shows Holden in his true form trying to deal with the problems by running away instead of dealing with them head on. For example,Holden could not deal with getting kicked out of school Instead of going home to his house and handling his parents emotion when they get the letter he stayed at a hotel in New York City. Holden also wants to keep total isolation. As he tries relationships, his mental capacity deteriorates.

When Holden was at that prep school he was failing most of his classes to the point where he got kicked out. He can't stand what people say about him this is why he doesn’t want to go home when he gets kicked out. He hates people with emotions and think that they are phonies. One example is his parent finding the letter from the school, Therefore he stays at a hotel for a couple of nights so he can avoid any confrontation with his parents. Also when he explains his reason for running away with Sally she think he is crazy. In this moment he walks out of the building and leaves sally all alone.

Holden sees waiting in line to go see a new movie is really phony to him.Another example of a phony i Sally, He thinks of her as a Ivy League outlook. He thinks taxicab drivers and madison avenue bus drivers are very phony a similar example is how moving on forward in holden's mind is very phony like how his parents moved on with allie's death . on the other hand, Holden does show some Phoniness in himself though. In fact, he lied to a adult when a parent asked him about pencey. In fact him how Holden doesn’t want to grow up but to stay
